The 2011 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Nightster (XL1200N) is a key part of the modern Sportster “Dark Custom” lineage, acting as a bridge between the earlier, brighter, chrome-heavy Sportsters and the later, minimalist “Iron” models. It was introduced as a mid-year model in 2007 and was a staple of the line until the introduction of the Iron 1200, which moved away from extensive chrome in favour of a blacked-out, “little bomber” look. It brought a factory-produced “bobber” style to the mainstream, featuring a 1200cc engine, a low seat height, and minimalist styling. While the Iron 883 was introduced in 2009, the 1200cc Nightster (XL1200N) served as the higher-displacement alternative in this style, ultimately paving the way for the later Iron 1200 featuring the reliable 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine, which was air-cooled and used electronic fuel injection (EFI). The 2011 model produced roughly 79 foot-pounds of torque (around 107-108 Nm) at 4,000 RPM. The 2011 model year saw a, new “side-mount” license plate, and standard, often under-slung, mirrors, considered as a groundbreaking, yet accessible, entry into the custom motorcycle scene.
